BBC - Children In Need: Goodbye Rainclouds

For 2020 Children in Need wanted to take a different strategy and focus on more of a brand message than the traditional fundraising one. Using emotion and storytelling was going to cut through more in a year where people were experiencing charity fatigue. 

That’s how we came to the idea of ‘Goodbye Rainclouds’, a storybook style film that follows three children who each try to get rid of a raincloud that won’t leave them alone.  It is only with the help of some unexpected heroes, Children in Need project workers, that they can move past their struggles. 

We were able to base these characters on real project workers (and one dog!) who work for three of the charities. With children’s book author and illustrator Tom Percival we sat down with these project workers to listen to their stories and lives so we could bring them to life in the animation- from what make of wheelchair kids would use playing wheelchair football to knowing about the red van that delivered food boxes to families in Scotland. Flow animation studios animated Tom’s drawings creating the world of our animation, topped off with a score by Alex Baranowski and narrated by Sara Pascoe.

The film and assets sat across TV, cinema, social, as bespoke channel idents, teasers, in OOH display screens and on the Children in Need website and all their marketing materials.

The nation rallied round and the total made for Children in Need was £41million, not bad for a year when people couldn’t leave their houses.

VRT één - Benny saves één

In this spring trailer, we wanted to make a light-hearted, tongue-in-cheek commercial promoting één’s spring 2020 line up. The story revolves around Benny, the enthusiastic, somewhat clumsy VRT janitor, who is also a huge fan of één. When één’s programming gets stuck because of him, he has to find a quick solution to save the shows. Benny is a useful character: he allowed us to promote the widest array of shows in a playful way. The commercial was broadcast on New Year’s Day 2020. Little did we know that it was a foreboding of life literally being put on hold in 2020.

Rai and the Giro d'Italia: always on the same road.

This is the concept of the promo for the Giro d'Italia, in which we put a present champion and the champions who preceded him on the same route.

We imagined Vincenzo Nibali meeting Bartali and Coppi while exchanging the famous water bottle during his daily training.We thought about the great Gimondi and Merckx in a constant struggle to get to Pantani who, like Oropa, regains the group and joins Girardengo, Binda, Saronni and the like in a collective ending.

For the realisation of the promo, we made use of the most advanced face-swap technology, recreating the faces of the characters in 3d through photos of different eras and, for the first time ever, giving colour to images that exist only in black and white.
